The“Indian” Archies
The new ick of Netflix.!!
This 1960s Show is directed by Zoya Akhtar, one of the best directors of the time who has been inspired by the comics “The Archies”. This fictional comic is filmed as a musical, but with an Indian twist that could not have gone in the worst way possible. And I’m only glad this was a movie and not a series.
I don't even think the “Gen-Z” would approve of this movie. Also, this movie proves that Beautiful sets or pretty faces with no acting skills will only cause the audience a headache.
Directed By Zoya Akhtar
The most appreciated Indian Cinema screenwriter who has directed the most light-hearted and relatable movies. Her last series on Netflix was Lust Stories — a taboo-breaking series that showcased the importance of “Sex” from a woman’s perspective. Her movies have all been about making life more meaningful and then she landed on the “The Archies”. The movie is about 7 teenagers and their small town Riverdale. Coming from a closed community I understand the love and passion. But in the end, it all comes down to how well the actors did justice to the character. The entire movie only felt like they wanted to be as famous as Disney's “High School” Musical.
Agastya Nanda as Archie Andrews
Archie is known for being the teen casanova played by Agastya Nanda, the grandson of well-known Indian Actor Amitabh Bachchan. Even though he tried to live up to the legacy his family has made. His timing is expressionless.
Khushi Kapoor as Betty Cooper And Suhana Khan as Veronica Lodge
My thought after seeing both their acting was “ If only their parents sent them to some sort of acting classes”. Also, my question is why these girls don’t open their mouths while talking? Their acting only made me feel like I was watching a clip from TikTok between two teen girls who are not teens anymore.
Vedang Raina as Reggie Mantle
Certainly, he looks like a younger version of “Ranveer Singh”. But can he act as well as him? Vedang has tried his best to be Reggie in the movie, even though his character in the comics has been a little different from what is in the movie. He comes out as a kind-hearted boy in the scene that consoles Dilton.
Mihir Ahuja as Jughead Jones
Mihir who has previously had the privilege of sharing the screen with Mona Singh, is the best judge of the character Jughead. His constant munching and love for his people have been the highlights of the characters.
Dot as Ethel Muggs
Aditi Dot who plays the role of Ethel loves her job, along with being the loyal friend of Betty, she has played a spot-on role in showing how one behaves when it comes to friends or money.
Yuvraj Menda as Dilton Doiley
The cute guy with the round black spectacles, and the nerd who can do it all. Even in the era of “Not-Coming out of the closet” Dilton says is it all with his expression and non-verbal feelings.
In conclusion: I know star kids are also going to follow there parents' footsteps of being actors or actresses. But there are star kids who have come to the industry worked in versatile characters and tried to prove to the world why they could be the next Gen Actors.
